ROUND 7 VS FOOTSCRAY DISTRICT
19 JULY 2009
MASTERS OVER 40s SthnSts 4.5 lt Foots 19.16
It was a windy day at the Bentleigh Oval which saw Southern Saints hosting
their arch enemy (yet well respected foe) Footscray District. Ladies Day was celebrated by both clubs with chicken and champagne a plenty.
Kids enjoyed the jumping castle. There was no joy on the field though.
The first quarter seemed fairly even - then things changed. First, 'pretty boy' Youngy
hurt his calf muscle (again) in what could be a season ending injury. There goes the
drive out of the centre square. Then coach Ronnie V did some kind of injury
as well - off he came. As if this wasn't enough, then Willow showed how a knee
shouldn't look if it is OK. He played on being a warrior that he is (and actually did quite well)
The wind played a big part in the game and Ronnie V came up with plays to combat this.
However a fully manned Footscray was just too strong on the day.
The team fought all day and actually didn't play as badly as the final scores showed.
Best players:
Keano (never gave up and threw himself into contests)
Abe (who is still in awe of his goal of the year in round 6)
Willow (the ultimate warrior)
Dave Phelan (man-mountain in backline who repelled the Dogs as much as was possible)
Johnny Aquila (ran all day and tried hard)
Matt Levy (didn't get injured...............................................and he played well all day)
Goals:
Big Scotty 2, Johnny Aquilla 1 and some others
Now for some after march highlights. 'Pretty Boy' (refer above) was seen talking to a male
with a pink T-shirt and tight shorts.(gay) and drinking red wine (more gay). This male was
then seen being given a pair of jeans by Mick Ashkar (what the hell!!!).
Now for the real story - the jeans were left at the o47 match and the pink t-shirt was a
red -shirt that faded in the sun. The male : Mr Ronnie Frank (definitely not gay - too fat to be gay)
SUPERS OVER 30s
SthnSts 8.9 lt Foots 12.6
Footscray had every right to be confident playing the Southern Saints who were 0 - 6. But they
knew that the Saints are not to be underestimated. Now this was a close match all day.
Footscray did get away in the 3rd quarter, but not for long thanks to goals from
Reidy, Deano
and Choco.
The coach gave clear instructions which were followed to the letter. From defence kick long
to the centre then look for Garth and Fenno (the runners). Once in the forward line - keep it there.
Only one problem - Fenno got crunched by 2 opposition players and came off with a neck
injury.
In fact with 5 minutes to go the Saints were leading. Only to narrowly lose.
This was a good game to watch. It was tough and close. We spoke to General for his comments on the Monday after game day (would you ask him
questions about the game after the match??). He sees a win not too far away as the team
is talented. Weather conditions were crap, The second quarter was crap and lost us the game.
Fenno was crap in the second half (we agreed..too weeny to say he went off injured)
The team needs to play for 4 quarters....
Best players: Bamert, Solts, Skins and Brady (not Fenno he was crap in the 2nd half)
Goal kickers: Bamert 2, and others kicked one each.
NEXT MATCH
We play Marcellin at home.
